First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Zimmer Biomet.
Business Manager
The interview started with a phone call from the engineering manager, who asked brief questions about my medical design background and project management skills. After passing that, I went for an onsite interview. It began with a chat with HR about work ethic and general getting-to-know-you topics, and surprisingly, salary, which was important given the relocation needed. Then, two mid-level principals interviewed me. It was more of a casual chat, but their questions were super detailed and unclear, so I had to ask them a lot of follow-up questions to figure out what they really wanted to know. After that, I met with the engineering staff who would be working under this role but wouldn't report to me – which felt like all the responsibility but no real authority. One of them was particularly unprofessional and rude, making me feel defensive and wanting to leave. I had to ask them to introduce themselves and explain their roles to understand their questions better, like 'what do you do if you're asked to do something impossible?'. It seemed they needed someone to handle their operational tracking, progress recording, and prioritization because they couldn't document their work, communicate with customers well, or suggest product improvements. Essentially, management was trying to fix a problem by throwing more people at it instead of addressing the root cause. The interview wrapped up with two senior principals, which was more casual but confusing as they had different ideas about the position and management styles. It became clear the company was known for a laid-back environment, which seemed to lead to very casual approaches to serious issues. I decided on the drive home that this wasn't a long-term fit, and luckily, they felt the same way.

Field Manager
So the first step was a phone call with a recruiter. Then, I had a second phone call, this time with the hiring manager. The final round was in person, and it took place at an airport. I met with the hiring manager again, and also with one of their sales peers.
