Engineer
First, there's a call with an external HR person to check if you're available and to do a quick screening of your experience and skills. After that, there's a formal interview. Usually, you'll interview with HR and the technical manager. They'll ask about your experience, education, specific skills, technical aspects, and then introduce the company, ask about your expectations, what location you're open to, and your timing.
- Can you tell me about your experience?
- What is your educational background?
- What specific skills do you possess?
Engineer
Got the email for an HR Phone Interview while I was in my graduation week, and I was pretty excited. I did the interview and felt like it went well, definitely not bad. The HR person told me they'd get back to me within a week with a clear yes or no answer. After a week with no reply, I called the HR person, but it went straight to voicemail, so I left a message. Another week passed, and still no answer, so I emailed the HR person, but got no response. I sent another email, and again, no answer. That was the last time I reached out. It's been a whole year and a couple of weeks now. Must be a great company, but the HR department, or at least the person who interviewed me, is really bad.
- Could you tell me about your strengths and weaknesses?
- Do you have any general, typical initial HR interview questions you'd like to ask?
Engineering Co-Op
I applied and got an email about 1.5-2 weeks later for an interview that was an hour long. It was a 30 minute tour and then a 30 minute interview with the manager and one other engineer. It took a couple months to hear back though.
- Can you tell me about yourself and how your coursework relates to our work?
- What classes have you taken that are relevant to this role?
