It was online, about 3 professors interviewing me. They asked about what I wrote in my personal statement. The interview was in Chinese. The hard part was the language, the questions were basic.

So I actually got this job offer without going through a formal interview process. I had already finished my bachelor's degree at the same institution, so I reached out to professors via email. Eventually, we had a good conversation about the job details and my salary, and that led to an offer.

It was a one-day on-site interview at ZJU-UIUC institute. They initially promised flight ticket reimbursement but later ignored this agreement and my inquiries. Months prior, I spent weeks preparing bureaucratic documents and lengthy grant proposals. The HR and Chinese interviewers became unresponsive. I felt their attitude was very disrespectful, and another candidate had a similar experience. The UIUC faculty interviewers were friendly, but it's unclear if ZJU or UIUC made the decisions. Be aware of these issues if you interview with them; I wasted a lot of time and some money.
