First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Zeta Charter Schools.
Student Success Associate
The interview process had two parts. First, a 45-minute Zoom interview where my qualifications were discussed. Second, a performance task that was due in five days. After submitting the task, references were requested. About five days after that, I was informed that my application would not be moving forward. This whole experience felt like a humiliation ritual, as I expected a decision after the performance task and references should only be requested once an offer is imminent. The reference check itself used Xref, which involved difficult open-ended questions. This company was not straightforward or considerate, and I would not interview with them again. It felt like they might be data farming or using applicant information to make their school look better, as there was no reason to request references if they didn't intend to hire me.
- As a performance task, they asked me to develop an accountability plan for stakeholders.
Teacher
The hiring process started with an AI web interview, and an invite was sent less than 24 hours after I applied. A week or so later, there was a follow-up Zoom call with an HR representative. I didn't feel a strong connection during that, and they didn't seem very impressed with my application. A few weeks passed, and then unexpectedly, the department head called to see if I was still interested. This was followed by a second interview with senior school leadership. They extended an offer the very next day, with a salary higher than I had requested. All interviewers asked detailed and thoughtful questions. I declined the job because I'm against charter schools and didn't want to use teaching prep time for supervising recess and other duties to save on staff costs. Despite this, it's an impressive organization with excellent facilities.
- Can you describe how you handle classroom discipline?
Operations Associate
I was messaged on LinkedIn and then scheduled for a prerecorded Spark Hire interview. I had to answer 5 prerecorded questions, which felt impersonal. All 5 questions were behavioral and not related to the role. Next, I had a Zoom interview with a recruiter who has been with the company for 1 year and a supervisor who has been there for 2 years. They asked two of the same questions from the Sparkhire interview, which felt redundant.
- What motivates your interest in joining Zeta?
- Describe your most significant accomplishment in life.
- Share a piece of positive feedback and a piece of constructive criticism you've received from a supervisor, detailing how you acted on it.
Special Projects Associate
They started with a self-video interview with five questions using SparkHire, then a task that can be pretty long. I'd suggest getting used to talking to yourself on camera. All my communication was via email; no phone calls, which was a change from my other interviews. Everyone I've interacted with via email has been really nice. My advice is to just believe in yourself; they reached out because they're interested in hiring you.
- Regarding education and Zeta, what motivates your interest in working here?
- Could you share the most recent constructive feedback you received from your manager?
- What accomplishment are you most proud of?
