Sales Development Representative
I applied and heard back the next day to schedule an interview. I had two phone interviews with different recruiters in the same week. They both went over the software and the role, and asked me general questions about my background and my interest in Zenefits. Then I had my final in-person interview where I met two people. They asked me to pitch a product, and also asked questions about my accomplishments, challenges I've faced, and we discussed my travel experiences. Both interviewers seemed impressed and said they'd be happy to have me, and I felt I did well. However, the next day I got a standard email stating they had found more qualified candidates.
- Can you share your favorite emerging software or technology from the Bay Area and explain why?
- Please explain the software/technology you mentioned.
- Now, try to sell that software/technology to me.

The interview process was pretty standard but in my case, very quick. I initially had a phone interview which lasted about 15 minutes. Basically talked about myself and why I wanted to go into sales and why I wanted to work for Zenefits. The second interview was in person with two different people. The first interviewer was very nice, spent a lot of time getting to know me, role played, answered questions related to the position; the first part lasted about 20 minutes. Then another interviewer came into the room and was very direct, serious, and to the point. He only asked me a few questions which lasted about 10 minutes. One question he kept probing was "what other tech companies are you interested in or know about." This question kind of threw me off guard because all my focus was on earning a position at Zenefits, so I had yet to spend any time researching other tech opportunities and what not. The total interview was about 30-40 minutes. I received a call two days after asking to set up a phone appointment with the last person who interviewed me. I was offered the job over the phone and I accepted it.
- What makes you want to join Zenefits?
- Can you introduce yourself?
- What motivated your decision to pursue a career in sales?
Sales Development Representative
Zenefits' recruiter hit me up on LinkedIn and asked to chat about the SDR role. We set up a call for a couple days later, and it turned out to be an interview! Luckily, I prepped and researched the company and role beforehand. The call was about 30 mins and covered my resume and typical phone-screen stuff. Then, they wanted an in-person interview. Before that, I had to do a writing test, basically writing an email to a CEO about Zenefits. The on-site interview was about 2.5 hours at their Scottsdale office. Get there super early for parking! I met with three managers and did role-playing for cold-calling and selling in a casual setting. They were tough and pushed back a lot. At the end, they tested me by saying I was too nice for the job. I had to defend myself and show why I'm a great fit. They want to see sales-ready qualities and some pushiness. Immediately after that, I got the offer on the spot! The experience was great and I was excited about the offer.
- What tech companies are you interested in besides this one?
- Can you tell me about your mentor?
- Describe a time you failed completely.
