First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at ZEISS Group.
Field Service Engineer
First, HR will look at your resume and cover letter to see if you have the right technical qualifications, certifications, and experience with maintenance or troubleshooting. Then, you'll have a call with HR or a recruiter to chat about your background, when you're free, if you're up for traveling, and how you communicate. Finally, an engineering manager or senior engineer will have a more detailed chat with you. You might get asked technical questions about electrical, mechanical, or software systems, and you might have to explain how you've fixed field issues before, or they might give you some problem-solving scenarios.
- Tell me about a time you had to fix a machine on the spot when you were under pressure.
Applications Engineer
The interview was scheduled for five hours but ran over because some panel members were occupied chatting when it was their turn. Most interviewers, excluding the hiring manager and director, asked predictable, uncreative questions, and some didn't even have questions. The role itself wasn't clearly explained by anyone.
- What are your long-term career aspirations over the next five years?
Applications Engineer
So, it started with the company and interviewers introducing themselves, then I introduced my resume and they asked some questions about specific parts. After that, there were technical questions related to the workgroup's field (if I didn't know something, they explained it after some probing), and a lot of questions about willingness to travel. Finally, there were some questions about my personality and salary expectations.
- What makes you interested in this role?
- Could you explain why you decided against pursuing a doctorate after your studies?
- Do you have any issues with working in shifts?
