Zappi Interview Questions
& Process

I had a first round interview with an HR/talent person. She was really competent and seemed to know the business well. She asked good, role-specific questions. I was coming from a competitor, and they mentioned that they might not be able to match my salary. I never heard back after this first stage. I've seen the role re-advertised, and the salary range hasn't changed.

The interview process included a Talent call, a Hiring Manager interview, a Panel interview, and a CPO interview. The Talent Director was great, keeping me informed and giving feedback throughout. The VP of Product and other product folks were friendly, smart, and professional. All the questions asked were thoughtful and relevant to the role and my experience. However, the CPO interview was a low point. The CPO seemed unprepared, didn't know my background, and said he wouldn't ask me questions. He talked for an hour about Zappi’s product approach, revealing it's more about project managing for big clients than being agile or product-led. He sounded menacing, asking if he scared me off, and seemed unprofessional, maybe hungover. It was the weirdest interview ever, a total waste of time. It was so unproductive that they scheduled a second final interview. The product team seems good, but the overall product function and top leadership are concerning. Zappi is service-first, and its product practices aren't mature for a product-driven company.

The interview process was smooth and speedy, with the people team keeping me informed of the next steps throughout. It consisted of three Zoom calls, each focusing on similar aspects of my experience, competency-based questions, and a general chat. I interviewed with the team manager, a product team member, and a senior CSM for the first round, followed by the department head for the second. The conversations were friendly and relaxed, centered on why I'd be a good fit for the role and the company. Updates on my progress were quick, and they offered plenty of support for any questions that came up.

The interview process was super fast, under 3 weeks. First, I spoke with a really awesome HR person from the UK, and I passed that. Then, I met the manager, also from the UK, and we really connected, even talking about music. I was excited to potentially work with him. The in-person part was very welcoming; a lady greeted me and showed me around. Two people, a lady and a gentleman, interviewed me. I chose Java, and they gave me a paper test with tricky Java questions covering array problems like removing duplicates, OOP concepts, and specifically a recursion problem related to stack overflow. It would be easy if you're well-prepared. If you picked Python, you'd get a different paper assessment, but still on paper.
