Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Zalando.
Buyer
I applied online and about a week later, I was invited for an online interview. The beauty buying manager and a colleague buyer interviewed me. It was a nice and relaxed interview, they made me feel comfortable. I generally understood the role's purpose but wasn't clear on my specific tasks. Unfortunately, I didn't receive any feedback after the interview.
- Can you tell me about yourself?
- What is your motivation for wanting to work at Zalando?
- What skills or professional development are you looking for by working with us?
Assistant Buyer
It started with a hangout interview with a Product Manager who was really nice and asked some great questions. On the same day, I got an invite for a personal interview and they even offered me a more senior position. The personal interview was with the team and HR, and it lasted about 2.5 hours. It was a good experience overall. I had to prepare a task, which we then discussed. Unfortunately, getting an answer about the next steps was tough because the recruiters were on holiday, and there seemed to be a lot of miscommunication, as my emails weren't getting clear responses. After almost 2 months, they told me they'd gone with another candidate. I did get some feedback, which was really kind. Then, 2 months later, they offered me this same position. However, just 2 days after their offer, they informed me that the position was cancelled and switched to a different role, so I couldn't be considered. It was super frustrating and disappointing.
- What makes you want to work for Zalando?
- Could you tell us about your Key Performance Indicators?
- In what ways would your friends describe your personality?
Assistant Buyer
Started with a recruiter call with HR to chat about the job and get past the initial checks. Then I interviewed with the buyer, which was chill and felt like a normal conversation, making it less nerve-wracking. For the final round, I had to prep a SWOT analysis and look into SS21 trends. They gave me enough time for it, and it was a cool way to learn more about the brand and show what I learned. The last interview had two parts: first, HR asked some STAR questions, and then the Buyer and Team Lead joined for me to present my projects and answer more questions. It was super conversational and relaxed again – big props to Zalando for creating a vibe where you can just be yourself. My advice: just be genuine, don't try to guess what they want to hear. If you're unsure, just say so or ask them to repeat the question.
- What motivated your application to Zalando?
- What KPIs would you use to measure your success?
- Could you please share an example of a time when...?
