First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at YSS.
Counselor
I met with the program director and another administrator. They told me a lot about the organization and what they do in counseling. It felt like they were trying to get me to join them instead of interviewing me. I know they only take one or two interns, so I figured my background and experience were good.
- What makes you want to be a counselor?
Family Development Specialist
The interview process was pretty standard. There were several "what would you do if..." type questions, so you need to be able to think quickly. It's important to know about local resources and programs like DHS, FIP, Promise Jobs, Medicaid, and food assistance.
- Tell me about a situation where you had to think on your feet.
- What do you know about local resources?
- What do you know about DHS?
Youth Recovery Specialist
I interviewed with two people who took turns asking questions. It was a pretty relaxed and straightforward process. They talked about the job and asked if I could work holidays, weekends, and overnights. They also mentioned that staff has to be on call at least once a month.
- Can you tell me about your weaknesses?
- What about your strengths?
- How do you deal with conflict?
Case Manager
First I spoke with the HR director, then I met with the program director and was later offered the position. You gotta get a background and a medical done before you start though.
- Can you tell me a little about yourself?
- What are your long-term goals?
