Social Media Recruiting Specialist
I applied online and then asked a friend of mine to follow up with the HR department, which he did. I received an invite for a panel interview over the phone. It felt like a "favor" interview as my referral was a co-worker of theirs with a title. We went about 45 minutes, with about 30 of that being focused on the job itself. No chance for follow-up questions from me, which tells me a lot about how they view candidates. To YRC, it's not a 2-party thing, it's all about them finding a body. After the interview, I followed up with Thank You notes, which went unreturned. Par for the course-- unprofessional. I never did get a yes/no, but after a month, I left them in the rear view mirror. By that point, I had no desire to work with/for them. Meanwhile, they post on Social Media about being all about their employees, about the great culture, about how they want to be an employer of choice. My impression of their HR team was that they were disengaged, most likely underqualified, and possibly stretched too thin. After all, we started the call with hearing about all the stress of constant change, managerial changes, reorganizations, and yes-- how they were below market in terms of compensation. Not very flattering.
- Can you share an instance where you used Social Media tools and how that helped with Recruiting?
Pricing Analyst
YRC was at my school's career fair, so I spoke with them. I didn't hear back for a month and a half to two months. They did a quick phone interview and then set up a 2-hour interview. I talked to four people, three managers and the VP of pricing, for 30 minutes each. They were all great people and told me about the job and expectations for day one, with no training. I felt my interview went really well, but then I heard absolutely nothing back. I emailed everyone to thank them for the interview and followed up again asking about a decision. They said they'd know within a week. It's been about a month since the interview and I've heard nothing, so they're not very punctual in my opinion.
- Can you tell me about a situation where things did not go as planned?
- Could you discuss your resume?
- What are your career aspirations for the next five years?
Operations Coordinator
I applied online and then a recruiter called me for an initial interview. After that, I had an in-person interview with the hiring manager. He then told me he wanted me to come back for a second interview. I didn't hear anything for a week, so I called to check my status and got scheduled for a second interview with a different manager. After interviewing with the second manager, I waited another week with no news, so I called to follow up again. The hiring manager let me know I was a top candidate and he was working with HR, and we might get an offer. The offer finally came after I called a fourth time to follow up.
- Can you tell me about a time an employee questioned a work assignment you gave them?
- Can you share an instance where you had to make a decision independently, without seeking input from others, and what was the result?
Software Engineer
So there were three steps in the interview process. First, a recruiter phone screening. Then, a phone interview with the hiring manager. Finally, an on-site interview where I met with the manager and the rest of the team I would be working with. It started out pretty straightforward, and then when we got to the group/panel part, it got more into the specifics of the job and day-to-day tasks.
- Can you tell me about your experience that's directly relevant to this application?
