First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
Volunteer
First I applied online, then I had an in-person interview. They asked the usual questions. They described different scenarios and I had to answer how I would respond. It was an easy and relaxed environment. Two people interviewed me.
- Given a scenario on the ward, how would you respond?
HCA
This role involves questions about empathy, care, commitment, and quality, asking for examples. You'll need to show interest, passion, a willingness to learn, and be a team player with a bubbly, talkative, but professional demeanor. If you don't have recent care experience (beyond 10 years ago), that's okay as there's now an academy for all new starters.
- How would you cope with a patient's death?
Clinical Coder
The hiring process felt welcoming and positive. Even though I was a bit anxious, the hiring manager was really understanding and helped me feel more comfortable. The interview was formal, but it wasn't too difficult, and I managed to share a laugh with the panel. The panel included a team leader, a trainer, and someone from HR. Even though I've received another offer, I would still consider applying here again.
- What makes you want to join this company?
Payroll Specialist
the interview asked about rates, personal allowance, and NHS contributions, plus a lot of personal questions. It wasn't difficult but was stressful. You need to be trained to work with ESR and things like that, so don't worry too much about the payroll interview.
- What's the minimum wage for this year?
- What are the current rates?
- What is the personal allowance?
