& Process

Before the interview, I had to send my CV and Cover Letter. The professor whose lab I was applying to suggested I show enthusiasm in the emails when sending these documents, and encouraged frequent follow-up emails. The actual interview was quite unexpected; it was supposed to be me interviewing the employer. I wanted to learn more about his career path, and because of that, he decided to interview me for the undergraduate research intern position that I had previously been rejected for.

First, they look at your CV. Then there's a general aptitude test. After that, there are 2 interview rounds, followed by a final interview. They also do a reference check for background. The whole thing takes about 3-4 months before you get hired. Usually, you find the job on their website.

The process started with a video interview with some generic and abstract questions. Then there was an assessment center which included 6 tasks, a presentation, technical questions, two group exercises, role play and competency. Dinner was also part of it, though not scored, it still counts.

I was interviewed with the director of the department (a professor), the General Affairs manager, and the Chief Program Manager. It was a typical Korean interview style, with another candidate being interviewed at the same time. While the other candidate was asked about her background, work experience, and language skills, the director didn't ask me any questions once he learned which university I attended. Afterward, we both completed a written translation test, switching between English and Korean. That concluded the interview.
