They had several rounds of interviews, and it was a really thorough process. I actually liked how thorough it was, it wasn't too much at all. They really vet their employees well and I appreciated that. If you get frustrated with the process, you probably won't be a good fit for their team.

My interview process with YNAB was super weird. I first sent in my resume and cover letter, and after a few weeks, they sent me a longer questionnaire with practice prompts that simulated role plays for the job. Once I submitted those, it took another few weeks for them to contact me for a Skype panel chat, which was pretty chill and not scary at all. Then, two more weeks went by (that seems to be their typical response time), and I had another Skype interview with two more people, which was also really relaxed and positive. I felt good about all the interviews, comfortable and enjoyed talking to everyone I met during what felt like a really long and thorough interview process. BUT, a week after that second Skype call, I got a blunt, generic email saying they had lots of applicants and I didn't make the cut. After being strung along for so long, it really bummed me out. I replied nicely, asking for feedback to help me improve for future interviews. The recruiter I'd been dealing with for months didn't even bother to reply. Having worked in HR myself, I was shocked by how unprofessional that was. I ended up deleting my YNAB account because of it. If you're going to spend months getting to know candidates and ask them really personal stuff, the least you can do is respond when they ask why they weren't hired.

The interview process is long and thorough, and I think it's worth it. You have to level up many times throughout the process. This includes simulating customer support responses and interviewing with a couple of different people. It took several weeks from start to finish, but the hiring team was always clear about when I would hear back about the next step. It is quite a time investment. By the time I was hired, I felt like I really knew them and they knew me.
