The interview process was fair and had various stages with various tasks. The position was for a local YMCA off the National YMCA. I had an initial call on Zoom and then a face-to-face interview for 1 hour that required answers to be filled.

Back in 2022, I had an interview for this role with two staff members. I also had to prepare and submit a slide presentation showcasing my past work, which was quite time-consuming. From the start of the video call, the atmosphere felt off, and the interviewers seemed really unenthusiastic. After we finished, I sent a thank-you email, but I never heard back and was essentially ghosted.

There were five interviewers in total. We covered about 20 questions, touching on things like safeguarding and how to manage your own wellbeing. You were given three scenarios to describe how you would handle them. Then there was another interview with the young person's panel, which were YMCA residents.

I sent in my application online and the whole thing took about two to three weeks to complete. The interview was in August 2023 at YMCA England in Southend. When I got there, they gave me five minutes to look at six generic images on two pages. I had to figure out what they meant because they'd ask me about them later. The interview itself went well. There were four interviewers, and I actually knew two of them from before, which made things much easier. It lasted about an hour, but honestly, it flew by. It felt like only five minutes, which I guess is a good sign when you're having fun. After we finished, I had to get my documents photocopied at the reception desk to prove I could work there, and then I headed home, feeling pretty good about the experience.
