I wrote a letter to apply, then got contacted and offered several times for a phone interview since I wasn't in California to meet in person. Then I had a second interview, also by phone. I was offered the role soon after my second phone interview.

I got referred by a customer I've worked with and Yewno reached out. A recruiter was also in touch, but I decided to work directly with the company. The recruiter seemed to have a good experience with the company, and I know they've hired at least one other person there recently.

First contact was a phone screening but very few questions were asked of me; went straight into an onsite with no explanation of the process beforehand. Onsite was 2.5hrs, disorganized, and interviewers were not prepared. Never heard back from my point of contact after onsite, even after sending a reminder email; it's been almost a month.

Coding Technical Coding System Design

We had 3 rounds in 3.5 hours. First was with the Engineering Head, where we started with a string manipulation code challenge. It was important to explain my thought process and plan. Then, I met with a Senior and Junior Developer. We talked about design patterns for async stuff like async/await vs promises. They asked me to pseudo-code how to cancel an async request if needed, which was a cool problem I hadn't considered before but figured out by thinking aloud. They also asked about the most challenging feature set I'd built, and we discussed that for a while. The last round was with another Senior and Junior Developer. I had to build a small React app to show my code style and then explain my design choices. Finally, they asked a knowledge question about designing a search bar from scratch, and the senior dev was really looking for answers on how to cut down on unnecessary API calls.

Confirmed questions3 questions
  • Can you generate a shape and represent it as a string?
  • How would you go about cancelling an asynchronous event?
  • Explain how you would design a search bar from the ground up, focusing on efficiency.
