First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at XY Planning Network.
Marketing Specialist
The interview process involved 3 interviews and an assignment. The interviewers were professional and courteous. However, I had issues with the assignment, as it required unpaid work, which I don't support. Although I was told it would take a maximum of 2 hours, it took at least double that time to outline a thorough strategy and detailed content. Additionally, due to time zone differences, I had to take interviews during my family vacation, including one at midnight. After all this, I was essentially ignored until I reached out to ask about the status and was then informed that another candidate was chosen. The feedback provided afterward was too generic, considering the extensive process I went through. It was surprising to learn that the selected candidate had no marketing experience, a requirement for the mid-senior level marketing role.

Member Experience Specialist
Interviewing at XYPN was super easy and fun. First, they did a phone interview where you could talk about why you'd be a good fit for 15 mins. Then, if you passed that, you'd have a second interview with the hiring manager. After that, it was on to the work sample stage. Lastly, after the work sample, there was a final culture fit interview.

Graphic Designer
So I had a few rounds of interviews. First, I had to do a video response to some questions they asked. After that, I met with the hiring manager. Then, they gave me a project to work on, which involved creating samples for a marketing campaign for a webinar. This included designing a direct mail postcard, a landing page, an email template, a slide deck, and an extra asset of my choice (I made a short animation for LinkedIn). This project took about 12 hours of my time and was unpaid. The team really liked the work I submitted. I had been talking to marketing even before I applied, so I already had a connection. About a week after I sent in my work, someone from operations let me know I didn't get the job.
- In what ways can you contribute to the advancement of the XY Planning Network brand?
Advisor Coach
So after a quick chat with HR and sending in some videos (which, honestly, took me way longer than I thought they would), I had to do a work sample. Then, I got to meet with the Sr. Director of Member Success. That interview went great, so the next step was this long 3-hour thing. It started with the person who had the job before me, then I had a group interview with two peers who weren't super experienced with interviewing, so it was a bit awkward. Finally, I met the co-founder. I got some really good feedback, but I did have to chase HR for an update.
- Can you share an instance of a work-related challenge or conflict you encountered and explain how you handled it?
