Accountant
I sent my resume in and the recruiter got back to me to set up an interview about 3 weeks later. The interview was scheduled for 4pm and I got there 15 minutes early, but it took a while to park and get to the building, so I signed in at security at 3:55. The HR person didn't come to get me until 4:20 and didn't apologize for the wait, which was a poor first impression. She asked one basic question about my resume, explained the company benefits, and had me complete a background check form. Then I was left in a small room with no windows for about 15 minutes before she returned. We then walked to another building where I met the hiring manager. The manager was friendly and asked basic questions about my resume, also discussing the department and the role. After that, I met with another manager from a related department who asked some behavioral and personality-related questions.

Category Specialist
The entire experience, from the initial contact to the interview itself, was quite unprofessional. It seemed like XTO doesn't have dedicated HR, as all communication came from non-HR staff. A Materials Coordinator (who didn't have a degree) from Midland, TX, who clearly lacked understanding of Category Management, contacted me about scheduling the interview. The interview lasted a brutal 2.5 hours. It involved three separate panels, each with two people. The first panel was a phone call with the Materials Coordinator and the Regional Procurement Manager in Midland. The Manager was about 20 minutes late, leaving only about 25 minutes for questions, which felt very rushed. The call went slightly over, and the next two interviewees entered the room and sat down while we were still talking. The Materials Coordinator asked about my salary expectations right there in front of my potential peers, even though I had already submitted this information on my application! The second panel consisted of XTO employees (transferred from ExxonMobil) who asked good questions and were polite. The third panel included current ExxonMobil employees, one of whom was pleasant, but the other was incredibly arrogant and never smiled. The company seems to be technologically behind, lacking a company-wide ERP and having very manual processes, especially in Supply Chain, although they mentioned this is being addressed. It makes you wonder what ExxonMobil has been doing since acquiring XTO. I'd only consider interviewing again if I could get the salary range beforehand and if I enjoyed working for a company that's significantly behind others in technology and processes.

A recruiter reached out to me via Career Builder and set up the interviews. First, I met with HR, who discussed benefits, and also with several managers and the VP of my department. The next day, I had interviews with supervisors from departments I might collaborate with. The company culture is pretty quiet, and the dress code is conservative casual, though jeans are okay on fundraising days. It seems like many people have worked together before at other companies, so it might take a while for newcomers to feel totally integrated.
