Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Xcel Energy.
Software Engineer Intern
The interview was pretty straightforward, mostly behavioral questions. It took a while to get feedback even though they said my interview went well. Ultimately, no offer was extended. Everyone was really respectful, but it's a pretty competitive place.
- Can you share an experience where you collaborated with someone with a different background or perspective than yourself?
Product Developer
The interview process started with a 30-minute pre-qual phone call. This was followed by a 1-hour in-person interview. About 4-5 weeks after that, I received a follow-up phone call with the results. The interviewers were good at taking standard HR interview questions and making them more relevant to the specific position.
- Can you share an instance where you needed to build a connection with someone or a group quickly? What was the significance of that relationship, and how did you nurture it?
- Describe how you keep yourself informed about industry developments. What actions do you take, and what do you do with the information you gather?
- Tell me about a time you worked with colleagues from different teams or departments to achieve a common goal.
Senior Software Engineer
I had a great interview experience. It was really thorough and made me feel comfortable and ready. I enjoyed meeting the team and seeing how they work. I'm excited about the possibility of joining and plan to be there for a long time.
- There were many standard questions and the process was quite in-depth.
