It was a pretty simple and quick interview process. They asked me about the company's background, some behavioral questions, and fundamental transmission line topics. There were three interviewers: one senior, one staff, and one intern. They seemed impressed with my knowledge of the company.

Behavioral

It was a 2 round process, all behavioral interviews. Each interview had 2 people from the team interviewing me, lasting 30-40 mins each. They got back to me pretty fast. They asked about past experiences (jobs, classes, projects, extracurricular). Typical star format questions. Basically a vibe check to see if you’re easy to get along with and have social skills, and can explain your thought process on your past experiences. Questions included standard ones like tell me about yourself, why interested in this role, what do you know about xcel, and where do you see yourself 10 years from now.

Confirmed questions4 questions
  • Can you tell me about a project that was frustrating for you?
  • Describe a time you worked with others.
  • Tell me about an instance where you encountered a conflict.

Behavioral Technical

I applied for what I thought was a finance internship. I got a call to schedule an interview, but I missed it because I was working. The person I was supposed to talk to kept calling me at the same time every week, even though I told them I was busy then. It seemed like they didn't know much about the role. Besides the application, there wasn't much screening before they asked me to come in for an in-person interview. When I finally scheduled it, I confirmed it was for a finance internship. I showed up and met two people I'd be reporting to. It turned out they were on the engineering/computer science side of the firm and needed someone with that background, not finance at all. They seemed frustrated, like they were just interviewing whoever got sent their way. Even though it wasn't what I expected, the role sounded interesting, so I stayed. The interviewers were really professional and would have been great colleagues. To my surprise, they offered me the job on the spot.
