A recruiter reached out on Wednesday and wanted to discuss my past experience and ask some general questions like 'Why twitter?' and 'What do you know about Twitter?'. It wasn't too hard. They asked for my availability for an interview with the hiring manager, which was scheduled for two business days later. The recruiter was very nice. The phone interview with the hiring manager was also pretty standard. We reviewed my resume and past work again. She asked me some simple behavioral questions, such as 'How do you keep yourself organized?'. Again, it wasn't difficult. I was contacted over the weekend for an onsite interview the following week. The whole thing moved quite fast. At the onsite interview, I met with several people from the recruiting team. Most of them were pleasant, but one woman was very cold and standoffish. I liked the recruiter and appreciated how quickly the process moved. However, my overall experience with Twitter wasn't great. One interviewer wasn't warm and welcoming like the others, and they rejected me for a reason they knew from the start, yet they wasted my time making me think I was a good fit.

Behavioral Technical Presentation

So I was contacted by a recruiter after I applied and we had a good initial chat. She set me up with a manager, which also went well. Then, a newer recruiter took over and a lot of information got lost. This recruiter tried, but only answered about 20% of my questions. Still, it was pleasant. I went for the onsite and it seemed to go well. Afterwards, the recruiter gave feedback and said there was one more step with a director. After that interview, the director said they wanted to move forward with an offer for a full-time senior role in NYC. A few days later, the recruiter called and said they were not moving forward. I was okay with it. Then, 10 minutes later, she called back to ask if I'd consider a contract. I asked for details. The next day, she clarified the terms and compensation. Because she was traveling, I was connected with another recruiter to give my decision to. I thought about it over the weekend and decided to accept the contract offer. On Monday, the new recruiter didn't respond to my emails. I emailed to accept and asked for time to discuss details. After CC'ing others, he responded to schedule a call. This person had no idea about the role, terms, or if I was accepting full-time or contract. I explained everything, but he seemed confused with someone else. I decided to wait for the contract processing. A week or so later, after I followed up, this recruiter emailed saying the team decided to pass. This whole process has made me lose trust.

I interviewed with team members, and the team leader made the final decision. Most of my interviews were over the phone, but I also had a video interview where I had to answer questions while being recorded by my laptop camera for the team to review later. This was a new experience for me, and I was impressed that they focused on my skill set and didn't mind that I didn't have any existing contacts for them to leverage.
