Senior Software Engineering Manager
The interview process was decent and quick since I had other offers. They were hiring for many roles, so it felt very generic, like a factory. I couldn't get any specifics about the role I was interviewing for. The interview with the hiring manager was particularly bad because it was with a manager junior to me, so I couldn't gauge our potential connection. Both interviewers seemed uninterested and confused by my non-traditional software background, focusing only on my experience from over 10 years ago, which really put me off. Twitter recruiting also didn't offer any feedback or ask about my interview experience.
- Can you share an instance where you encountered resistance from a coworker regarding a change you were implementing? Describe your response and the eventual results.
- Tell me about a time you drove a change and faced pushback from a coworker. What steps did you take, and what was the outcome?
- Describe a situation where you faced resistance from a coworker to a change you were trying to implement. What was your approach and what were the results?
Engineering Manager
The recruiters were aggressive and relentless in trying to get me to interview. The whole process felt really unstructured, almost like there wasn't one. The hiring managers seemed unsure about what they needed in the role and didn't have a clear plan for the position. They couldn't answer my questions. After I spent money on parking and went to meet them, they went completely silent. I never heard back about my application, even after I followed up. It would have been courteous to at least let me know what was happening. Comparing this to Google or Facebook, their hiring practices are much worse, and it makes me wonder about Twitter's future success.
- There were no difficult questions asked because the hiring managers didn't know what they were looking for. The company seemed disorganized and had a 'wild wild west' culture.
Software Engineering Manager
There were two phone interviews and then an on-site with six people from different parts of the org. Everyone was really smart and relaxed, and the vibe was all about getting stuff done and building cool new tools. The office setup was amazing too! My recruiter was great, always getting back to me fast and even giving me feedback after the on-site. She mentioned I wasn't as experienced as some others, but she was really nice about it. No complaints about the process at all.
