Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at x.ai.
Software Engineer
Interviewing at XAI was tough but interesting. There were technical interviews covering AI basics, system design, and problem-solving. The interviewers knew their stuff and it was fun talking with them. They focused on real AI problems, which was cool.
- Can you describe your previous projects?
- What are the core AI fundamentals?
- How would you design a system for AI?
Software Engineer
It was a 15 minute phone interview. Not a great candidate experience, they just asked their questions (resume stuff) and you didn't get to ask anything after. Felt like a behavioral interview or hiring manager round because it was kinda subjective.
- Were there any resume related questions?
Software Engineer
I was contacted by an external recruiter to schedule an interview with the Hiring Manager. I actually never spoke with the recruiter. The Hiring Manager seemed nice, but we didn't seem to connect. They were looking for a specific answer to their Systems Design question, and we had trouble communicating what they wanted. We eventually got to the specific data structure used in a real software component, which I managed to figure out. It wasn't extremely hard, but it was very frustrating for both me and the Hiring Manager.
