First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at WSECU.
Customer Service Associate
It was a one-way video interview first, then an in-person panel interview. For the video part, I could read questions as long as I needed and had two tries for each. Then, three people, including the branch manager, interviewed me in person. They handed me a paper with the questions and took turns asking them. They also asked follow-up questions based on my answers.
- How do you ensure you are accountable for your work performance?
Customer Success Manager
I applied online and after two weeks, I got a request for a private, recorded interview through a third-party service where I had to answer general questions about my background. It felt like I was just restating my resume to a SAAS. Two weeks after that, I had a phone screening, followed by two more phone screenings. Communication was slow, with weeks passing between each step. At one point, I was asked to be in Olympia within 48 hours for an in-person interview, even though I was caring for my parent undergoing cancer treatment. I rearranged my parent's treatment schedule and rushed to Olympia at my own expense for the final interview. This interview involved multiple panels of people who weren't even related to the job. They didn't know much about my specialized field and, surprisingly, couldn't answer basic questions about the organization or their processes. After four hours, I felt humiliated. I had spent over $575 on last-minute arrangements for my parent's care, drove to Olympia, booked my own accommodations, and then faced a humiliating drive back. I never mentioned my situation or costs, but it was tough enduring this subpar interview where they belittled my 10+ years of experience at major financial institutions like Bank of America and BECU. Twelve weeks later, on a Friday evening at 7:00 PM, they sent a short, 18-word message saying they were moving on with other candidates. I feel like they showed a lack of professionalism and care towards potential employees and could have at least considered my potential as a customer too. I regret the time and money spent.
- What are your thoughts on credit unions?
Loan Officer
I applied for this job because I was planning on moving and wanted to secure employment beforehand. I was already familiar with credit unions and had read good things about WSECU on Glassdoor. Shortly after applying, I received a call to schedule a phone interview. It was nice that they were willing to conduct an interview for a long-distance candidate. The interview itself was conducted by two people and was primarily behavioral and experience-based. Although they started a bit late, the interview went reasonably well. A couple of weeks passed without hearing back, and I assumed they had moved on with other candidates since they mentioned wanting to hire someone by the end of February. Then, an HR representative contacted me late one evening, informing me I was a finalist and asking for permission to check my references and my availability to start in early March. I completed the online authorization for the reference check and provided contact details for three professional and three personal references. The following Wednesday, I received another job offer. Before accepting, I decided to check in with WSECU to confirm I was still in consideration. It had been three business days, which is typically how long a background check takes. I called and left a message inquiring about my status. That same evening, several of my references contacted me, mentioning that WSECU had called them and they had provided positive feedback. They even contacted my last reference, suggesting they had reached out to everyone on my list. I expected to hear back the next day. However, I never did. Given my customer service experience, not returning a call by the next business day would be unusual. Perhaps they have a different approach to managing candidate communication, but I cannot judge their internal culture. With the start of March approaching rapidly and my need to relocate, their lack of communication suggests either a disregard for the logistics of moving across the country or an assumption that finalists do not warrant notification of not getting the job. While I acknowledge that oversights happen and many employees seem to enjoy working there, my personal experience with their hiring process was confusing and ultimately unsatisfying.
- Can you describe a situation where you dealt with a dissatisfied customer?
Teller
Submitted an application and heard back within a couple hours with an invite to do a one way video interview which only had 6 questions. Waited a week to hear back and started thinking I didnt get it. Just received a new email asking me to complete an online assessment. It seems like this company has a lot of hoops to jump through before an offer is made for employment.
