The whole thing took a couple months, mostly due to government red tape, but it was pretty standard for the federal government. Getting on base and all the paperwork was the main hassle, but the interviews themselves were nice. They asked about past experiences and future goals, nothing too wild. They seem to care more about how you'll fit in as a person than your exact skills, if you get past the first stage. Dress sharp, be ready for security checks, and show you're serious about a civil service career.

Had the strangest interview experience. It was on campus, and an older woman interviewed me. A younger guy from Wright-Patt was there too, but he didn't say a single word the whole time. The whole thing was less than 20 minutes, and none of the questions seemed related to the job at all. I'm applying for a program manager role that handles big, international military programs, so I figured they'd ask about managing programs, international experience, or military stuff. But nope. They mainly just wanted to know if I'd move to Dayton.

Had a phone interview where we talked about data structures and simple algorithms. Then, I went in person to learn more about them and they got a feel for me. The questions weren't too hard, just basic CS 101 stuff. The in-person interview was pretty relaxed and straightforward.
