I had a strange experience interviewing with VML. I don't usually review these, but it was so unprofessional I feel compelled to warn others. A recruiter contacted me about a job in Memphis, even though she was in NY. We had a phone screening, and then she set up an interview with someone in Kansas. That went well, so I was invited to another interview with the same person in Kansas and someone from Memphis. I thought it was odd they didn't just interview me in Memphis. I prepared for the interview, but no one called at the scheduled time. I waited 15 minutes, then emailed the recruiter to confirm. No response. After 30 more minutes, I called her, and it went to voicemail. I left a polite message. No call back. Then, one of the interviewers looked at my LinkedIn. I've never experienced anything like this. Things happen, but standing someone up and not calling back is unacceptable. It left a bad impression of WPP, which is a shame. I'll be telling my copywriter and marketing friends to avoid VML.
- Can you tell me about your past work experience?
Copywriter
I saw a post on social media from a recruiter and reached out. I had a quick phone call the next day. Then, the day after that, I went in to meet with HR and the creative team. I got the offer two days after that. It was super fast, which I actually prefer. Everyone was really nice and just told me straight up what the team needed. They were also cool about me being a new grad from portfolio school.
- What is your motivation for pursuing a career in the pharmaceutical industry?
Copywriter
I was already freelancing for them, so the interview was pretty quick since they knew my work. I met with the Executive Creative Director and the Associate Creative Directors, who were both writers and art directors. They also reviewed my portfolio.
- Can you tell me about the piece in your portfolio you are most proud of?
