First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at WP Engine.
Technical Support Specialist
After submitting my application online, I got a call from someone who clearly hadn't looked at my resume two days later. I politely clarified my tech background and past roles to speed things up. They're really focused on personality and cultural alignment, seeking folks who are positive and team-oriented. It was a pretty standard, unexciting interview, though they did emphasize knowing about WP Engine and their culture. A few days after that, I went in for an in-person interview. I spoke with an office manager and then two front-line managers. Again, mostly standard questions. I reiterated my qualifications upfront, and this time they had actually read my resume, which was a relief. So, they concentrated more on whether I'd be a good fit for the team and what the job involved, rather than diving deep into technical specifics like explaining octal usage in chmod commands.

Technical Support Specialist
I found this role on LinkedIn in mid-February 2021 and applied. The recruiter interaction was smooth and I soon had interviews with two hiring managers and the department director. I thought my interview went really well and got positive feedback from the managers during the interview itself. However, things took a turn. The recruiter said he'd be in touch early the following week after my interview, but I never heard from him. I had to send several emails, and after a month had passed since the interview, I finally texted him. It felt like they enjoyed wasting people's time, which was very frustrating and unprofessional.
- What makes you want to work for WP Engine?
Technical Support Specialist
I got contacted by them about 2 months after I applied online. They asked me some things that weren't even in the job description. When I asked for clarification about what they meant by 'proficient' in MySQL, like if they meant query searches in the terminal or just adjusting databases in cPanel, they brushed me off saying I didn't have the skills and ended the call quickly. I told them that MySQL experience wasn't listed for this job, but they didn't seem to care. They said they'd send me some homework to check my skills against my resume, but a week later they told me I wasn't being considered. It was pretty rude.
- Do you have expertise in MySQL?
