I had the usual call with the recruiter to set up an hour-long interview with the hiring manager. I felt the interview went really well, and at the end, he mentioned he'd recommend me to move forward. After that, I didn't hear anything back, so I emailed the recruiter for an update but still got no response. About a month later, I got an email saying they'd gone with another candidate. Super unprofessional.

I applied online about a month ago, and although I thought I didn't make the cut for an initial interview, I got an email from the company rep to schedule a 20-minute phone screen. We discussed my background, my reasons for pursuing an internship over full-time employment after bootcamp, what I'm looking to gain from the experience, and whether my skills align with their tech stack. The rep was very clear about the internship program structure and pay: interns are contractors paid $500/week, with deductions for sick days, vacation, or holidays. The next step is a technical onsite interview with a Senior Developer, who for me was the API Lead. This onsite was scheduled for 45 minutes max and requires knowledge of JS or Java. The developer might ask a couple of questions about my background and interest in Work Market before diving into whiteboarding. Kaitlyn, the company rep, will follow up within a week after consulting with the Sr. Dev to decide on extending an offer. This was one of the best interview experiences I've had. Kaitlyn is very professional and transparent. The API Lead I met seemed genuinely invested in the mentorship and experience of summer interns, taking the time to explain their workflow and database schemas, and helping me understand new concepts.

I had a call with HR first, then another call with a second HR person. After that, I spoke with the Director of Quality over the phone, which was a good conversation where they asked me to write a function online. Later, I had a phone call with a Test Automation Engineer where they asked me to complete 3 programming tasks within the day by writing 3 functions. I mentioned I didn't have computer access at that time and could only do it over the phone, which took up 50 minutes of my work time. We agreed to reschedule, but I never heard back from them. Honestly, it felt like the company didn't value my time as an applicant.

Behavioral Technical

I applied online and heard back from a recruiter who wanted to schedule a phone chat with the CMO. When we connected, the CMO hadn't even looked at my resume and was super rushed. They rapid-fired a bunch of questions and then asked if I had any questions, but it was clear they didn't have time to answer them. They seemed really surprised I'd actually spent time using their product. It was the worst meeting ever, so I asked to be removed from consideration.
