First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Wood Smith Henning & Berman.
Associate Attorney
Be ready to interview here on five hours notice. A few days after submitting an application to this firm, I received an email to schedule a zoom interview...that same day, on five hours notice. I respectfully informed HR staff that I was not available to interview that afternoon, which was a Monday. I then provided multiple alternative times throughout the upcoming week when I could be available. This was confirmed, and I was told the firm just needs to coordinate the partner's schedule, etc. I never heard back. I followed up with HR twice, then once directly with the partner. So, if you apply here, be ready to interview on five hours notice.
No confirmed questions were included in this interview report.
New Business
The interview felt very cold and robotic, and not welcoming at all. They used standard HR questions and sent over a job description that wasn't even correct. Two people were in the room, but they never introduced themselves, yet they were part of the interview. They seemed to have very little interest in being there or in the whole process of interviewing me, even though they requested me.
- How would your former supervisor rate you on a scale of 1 to 10?
Litigation Paralegal
I talked with the Office Manager for the paralegal position. It was a basic chat where they asked about my experience and skills. I turned down the offer because the benefits weren't great. The company doesn't match 401K, and they give 10 days PTO and 6 days sick leave. The yearly billable requirement for paralegals is 1,850, which is pretty high compared to other defense firms.
- What's your reason for leaving your current job?
- What motivates you to pursue a paralegal career?
- How do you handle interactions with junior associates unfamiliar with firm procedures?
Senior Associate
I talked with the managing partner, another partner, and senior counsel. They asked about my litigation background, the kinds of cases I've worked on, and their outcomes. They also wanted to know my reasons for leaving my previous firm. We discussed billable hours, including my previous targets and how I felt about requirements. They inquired about my experience managing cases from start to finish and communicating with clients.
- Can you share your most fulfilling experience as an attorney?
