The interview process for a Consultant role — whether in management consulting, strategy, or specialized areas (like IT or healthcare consulting) — is typically structured, multi-stage, and designed to test analytical ability, communication skills, and business judgment.

I was contacted for a Consultant, Insurance delivery role. Initially, I missed an email, but a month later, a colleague referred me, and I connected with a recruiter. The first step was an email requesting a detailed self-description. The second step was a pleasant chat with a consulting manager about the role, my experience, and a brief English conversation. During this, the manager shifted the focus from a permanent contract, as initially mentioned by HR, to an internship. The third step was a quick 10-minute formality with another consulting manager who considered me part of the team but was unaware of the contract details and asked no significant questions. After a week of silence, I contacted HR, but they disappeared and closed the job posting. A week later, I received a rejection email. The whole process and the final communication were quite awkward and unprofessional.

They had three interview rounds. The HR person was in a hurry to get things scheduled but still insisted all interviews be in person rather than remote. The first was a call with HR, and the rest were on site. The interviewers seemed unprepared, looking at my resume for the first time during the interview. One was quite rude, interrupting me and not listening to my answers or questions. Another didn't have any questions even though I was told it was a technical interview. It was a disappointing experience overall.
