The interview process started with a recruiter call, then a hiring manager chat, followed by panel interviews. The first two stages felt way too easy. Recruiters aren't usually a hurdle, but the hiring manager interview was surprisingly short and easy, less than 10 minutes total, and he seemed uninterested and barely looked at me. He only asked one generic question. The panel interviews were as expected, though lengthy. I was given a standard rejection email. My experience and resume made me overqualified. I thought I'd be a shoe-in. Friends on the inside mentioned that many openings are on hold until the factory ramps up, and they have many job openings for a factory that's not even close to being finished.

Behavioral

I sent in my application online. After a month, HR reached out and sent me a survey. It had a lot of behavior questions and asked for my resume again. This questionnaire was super long, like a whole day's work, with about 40 questions, some asking about my experience. It was really tedious. They also asked about salary expectations in the questionnaire, and you could only put numbers, so I spent time thinking about a reasonable range. They let me know I didn't make it to the next round, but I appreciated that they actually informed rejected candidates.

Behavioral Technical Other

HR reached out to me about a role. First, I had a chat with a recruiter who asked mostly behavioral questions about culture fit. Then, I went to an in-person interview at Cree, which was kind of a mixed bag - 3 people were there from Racine and 3 more joined over Skype from Durham. During the interview, one guy gave me a puzzle to solve but I couldn't do it. I explained to him that it wasn't really how I solve technical problems day-to-day and gave him some examples. I ended up negotiating salary and got the final offer letter a couple of weeks later. They offered me the job the day after the interview.
