I met the Manager in the store. I got there 10 minutes early and had a look around. The interview lasted about 20 minutes. We first chatted about my interests, when I could work, and my previous jobs. Then we talked about the company and what the job would involve. Finally, I had to give a short pitch on why I'd be good for the role.

When I applied for the job online, I was really excited about Wolford because I've liked the brand since 2016 and thought it was a great company. The first interview was with the Store Manager, who was really nice and friendly, just like I imagined Wolford to be. She then set up a second interview with the East Coast Regional / Area Manager, and that's when things went bad. The whole interview felt like a power trip. She grilled me about my past experiences and scoffed at my volunteer work, saying 'volunteer work is great but people have to pay the bills,' which made it seem like I came from money and didn't need to work full-time. But I was actually working over 40 hours a week while studying for my Master's and volunteering on weekends. She then mocked my future goals and past jobs. When I said I'd like to farm as a hobby with my Master's in Agriculture while retail is my career, she acted like it was a crazy idea. When I mentioned one company I worked for went out of business, she said 'well, that's a reason to leave' in a snarky way and asked if my other jobs were still around. My resume isn't perfect and has gaps, but she could have asked about them professionally. It seemed like she had a chip on her shoulder and was using the interview to vent. I have high-end retail experience and was willing to take a $7 pay cut for this job because I liked the brand and thought there was room for growth. Now, I wouldn't even take it with a $7 raise.

It was a really long and tough interview process. Started in person, then had a phone interview with regional. They asked a lot about how I'd deal with unhappy customers, how I'd stay productive when it's slow, and how I could grow the customer base.
