First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Wold Architects and Engineers.
Graduate Architect
Sent in my materials, and then got a call back within two weeks for a quick phone interview - though they didn't say it was a phone interview at first. At the end of that call, they mentioned they'd be calling people about in-person interviews in a couple of weeks. So, about two weeks after the first call, I got a second call to come in for an in-person interview. During the in-person, I met with two partners and HR. They were all really easy to talk to and openly shared the good things about working there. Then, after about two more weeks, I got a call asking if I was still interested, and right after that, they gave me a verbal offer. The offer was emailed later that day, and I had until the end of the week to decide.
- Is there anything else you'd like us to know about you that we didn't cover during the interview?
Intern Architect
I found the posting on the company's website and submitted my resume, cover letter, and a brief portfolio. The head hiring person called me for a phone interview, which went well. They said they'd aim to get me in for an in-person interview within the next week or so. I was called back shortly after to schedule it for the end of the week. For the interview, I brought extra copies of my resume and my portfolio in a hard binder. The interview panel included the principal leading the team I'd be joining and two staff members. The atmosphere was friendly, and the dress code was somewhat casual. The interview lasted less than an hour. They didn't really look at my portfolio until the last few minutes, and I think that was only because I prompted them.
- Do you think you would get bored in this role?
Architectural Intern
It started with a brief phone call from an HR hiring manager who asked some basic interview questions but didn't let me ask any of my own. The next day, she called back to set up an in-person interview with two partners, which took place about a week later. The office space was large and felt a bit dated and gray with a lot of fluorescent lighting. My interview with the partners and the HR rep went well; they were friendly and kept it conversational while asking their main questions. Instead of asking me to go through my whole portfolio, they looked through it with me and asked questions about specific pieces later. I liked how easy they were to talk to. They explained their firm's setup like an educational studio and confirmed they put interns on big projects right away to help them learn fast, which could be good or bad. They answered my questions clearly and addressed my concerns quickly after the interview over the phone. They really emphasized wanting someone who is a self-starter, has a good personality, is new to the professional world, and wants to commit to the firm long-term. After the interview, the HR rep gave me a tour and then I briefly met with the partners again before I left. They then offered me the job. I had a few days to decide, and they were very open when I called the next day with some questions and doubts.
- Can you share an example of how you've demonstrated leadership?
- Tell me about your experience as a leader.
Operations Analyst
It was a 20 minute phone screen with the recruiter, then I got invited for an in-person or zoom interview. I talked to someone from the operations team, the manager, and the CFO. They asked me about my education and my work experience. No weird questions. We then talked about my questions for them, and I think it went well.
- Which college course did you find the most challenging, and why?
- Can you describe a situation where you had to work with a difficult person and how you handled it?
- What was your most challenging course in college and why?
