This was a really frustrating and confusing interview. I first applied for an EL2 Treasury role, but they said it was filled. Then they contacted me again saying it was still open, but during the interview, they told me the role was actually never filled, just put on hold, and that I should consider lower-level roles (EL1 / IC4) with less responsibility and pay. The whole process felt disorganized and deceptive. They also contradicted their public statements about flexible working. Even though they advertised flexibility, I was told 3 days in the office was mandatory, with no negotiation. The interview itself was also unexpectedly confrontational. They reacted poorly, almost hostile, when I expressed surprise about the role change and office requirements, instead of being open to discussion. It all felt very unprofessional and lacking transparency.

The process included several stages, starting with CV screening, then a recruiter interview, a technical interview, and finally a discussion with senior team members. It took a lot of time. The main issue was that the critical requirement for deep platform domain experience was only revealed late in the process, just before the final stage. Earlier stages didn't make it clear that platform-specific leadership experience was essential for this role. Feedback at the end emphasized platform domain depth and perspective, which could have been assessed earlier. This meant a candidate could invest significant effort before discovering a fundamental mismatch in expectations.

So the first chat was with the HR person. We talked about the company and what it's like to work there. They also asked me about my past jobs and what I've done. The person interviewing me mentioned that if things went well, I'd get a take-home assignment and then a technical interview.
