First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Wisconsin Foundation and Alumni Association.
Research Program Specialist
I was first reached out to by the Prospect Research Manager for a phone chat, which was supposed to be 30-45 minutes long. About two weeks later, the manager called me again to set up an onsite interview. This involved meeting with the manager and his supervisor. We talked and I also did a short case study where they gave me an article and asked what data I'd add to their system. That whole thing took about an hour. The office is open concept, no cubicles. The manager mentioned the salary range is $32k to $40k.

Gifts Processing Specialist
The interview process was unprofessional and lacked good communication. It kicked off with a 30-minute phone screening and chat. Then, I was invited for an in-person interview with three of the managers from the team. They asked general interview questions, and a lot of in-depth questions about my background. I felt like the interview went really well. They didn't seem to have any worries about my qualifications, and I felt a good personal and professional connection with them. They said they'd reply within two weeks. Two weeks passed, and they extended that by another two weeks. I called and left a voicemail after the extra two weeks (so, a month after the first phone interview), and still no word. It's been 7 weeks now, and I haven't heard anything, nor do I expect to, especially since they never returned my call from three weeks ago asking for a status update.
- What core competencies do you possess that would benefit the team?
Writer/Copy Editor
My first interview was a video call, no phone screening. I expected a standard interview with one person, and a chance to ask about the job since details like hours and pay weren't provided. But when I joined the Zoom, there were at least 6 people interviewing me! They took turns asking tough questions for over an hour, and I didn't even know what the job entailed. It was supposed to be writing and copyediting, but they focused a lot on marketing experience, which wasn't in the description. The interview ran late, and the manager made everyone stay to let me ask my questions at the end, which was super awkward and felt disrespectful of their time. Then I had to do a 3+ hour writing assignment, due in 48 hours. I didn't hear back for six weeks, and when I followed up, they apologized and said they thought they'd emailed me, but they hired an internal candidate. It's been a while, but I still think about how weird that process was and hope they've improved it.
- How does philanthropy feature in your everyday life?
Senior Major Gifts Officer
It was a 2 round interview process. First, a phone interview, then an in-person interview. The in-person consisted of a 1-1 with a very senior individual and then a panel of managers. Overall, it was a really approachable, supportive, and enjoyable interview experience.
