First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools.
EC Teacher
You'll be talking with some folks, like a grade level teacher, assistant principals, and the principal. They're gonna hit you with at least 10-15 questions about your background, how you plan lessons, how you handle social and emotional stuff, and how you'd deal with conflicts between teachers or with students. You gotta know your lesson planning, and super important, the NC Teaching Standards! Knowing the curriculum is key.
- How do you manage your classroom?
- What would you say is your greatest strength and your greatest weakness?
- What's your approach to time management when it comes to lesson planning?
School Bus Driver
I had a phone call with the recruiter, Ken Shields, and he set me up to come in for a training class. Then I interviewed with Tai Ashe, the supervisor, and also met with the administrators at the schools I'd be serving. Part of the process also involved interacting with children who have different backgrounds, like artistic, EC, and 'normal' ones.
- How would you handle a child who is misbehaving?
Associate Attorney
We had a roundtable with lots of different interviewers. There was also a written essay part. Basically, they were testing interpersonal skills and written word ability. It was a bit intimidating at first, but many of the other interviewees helped make you feel more comfortable during the process.
- How do you envision your role within this organization?
Language Facilitator
The interview process was easy, with some standard questions and then some deeper dives into child development and language development. The interview was held at the central office. You find out which school you'll be at once you get the offer.
- We will read a short passage, and your task is to transcribe it verbatim as accurately as possible.
