First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Winc.
Wine Program Assistant
I was called in for an interview for a part-time internship position with very little notice. I met with the program director and a founder. It was a casual conversation where I talked about my work history and achievements. The role itself was really unclear - they weren't sure if it would be full-time, part-time, an internship, or a permanent spot. When I asked questions, they couldn't really answer because the job wasn't defined. I think I was their first interviewee, and they seemed to figure out what they needed as we talked. They mentioned someone else would call me for a phone interview. I sent thank-you notes and followed up twice by email with HR, and even tried calling. The operator said they couldn't transfer calls and I should email support, which I did, but I haven't heard back. It's disappointing and rude that they're ignoring me after I took the time to interview in person.
- Can you introduce yourself and tell us about your proudest accomplishments?
Project Manager
It was a telephone interview, which makes it hard to gauge everything since you miss non-verbal cues, which I think are important. The interviewer was from HR, and they were polite and kind. They seemed interested in hearing more about my career path, asking things like 'Why did you decide to study this...?'. After that, they let me ask my questions, which they answered. They also outlined the next steps. I haven't heard back with any feedback yet.
- Could you start by telling me about yourself?
- What led you to choose this field of study?
Email Marketing Specialist
The first phone interview was with someone on the marketing team and they asked about my background and experience. They seemed to be clear about what they were looking for and it seemed like a good match. Since I was living across the country, they wanted to do a follow-up Skype interview with a few other team members. When we set it up, I found out the other team members wouldn't be there and it was just a repeat of the first interview since she asked me to "refresh her memory". Near the end, they told me they wanted me to do a test email build. This is normal for my role, but it took them a week and a half to send the test. Instead of generic graphics and text, they wanted me to use their own copy and images. I felt uncomfortable because if I didn't get the job, they would still have my work for free. I think it was just mismanagement, but it still seems like a cool company.
- Can you do a skills test with our provided materials instead of generic ones?
Copywriter
A recruiter reached out to me. I then had a 2-hour meeting with the VP and founder. After that, I was given a sample assignment to complete. It seems like a pretty friendly place to work, with a lot of new hires and people getting promoted. The company appears to be growing and is in the process of rebooting its strategy. They have an open office space located in Playa Vista.
- Can you tell me about your current work responsibilities?
