First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Wilson Sporting Goods.
Marketing Manager
I went through a selection process for a global Padel Marketing position at Wilson, handled by an external headhunter. The whole thing took over three months. The final interview was this SUPER long case study that I had to prepare and present to both the Europe and US teams. It took days to get ready. Even though it was super demanding, I never got any feedback afterwards, not from the headhunter or the company.
- Could you outline a marketing plan for launching a new padel racket, including storytelling elements?
- What would be the marketing calendar for a new padel racket launch?
- Describe an omni-channel marketing strategy for a padel racket launch.
Apparel Designer
I talked to HR to set up a meeting with the director. After the initial interview, there were 3 more interviews with directors, but one got cancelled. I also had to do a capsule project. They offered an optional presentation. The whole hiring process took a bit over two months from the first contact until I heard back. They took a while to respond, but they were professional. In the end, I was told there were 5 people in the running.
- Could you describe your professional background?
Technical Designer
The interview process started with a video submission through Hireview. After that, there were 3 more interviews. I really enjoyed all my interviews and the conversations I had. It genuinely felt like they were focused on making sure we would all get along well, which I think is a positive sign. The whole process took about 1.5 months.
- Can you tell me about a challenging situation you faced in a previous role and how you handled it?
- What do you like to do outside of work?
Marketing
The process was bad. No call with a recruiter (to discuss salary, etc.) before you're asked to do a very in-depth first interview. Only thing is: there's no interviewer -- you're just sent questions and told to record your answers into a computer. And the questions are not general. These are specific questions about the role, what ideas you have, etc. A bit red flagg-y to most creatives considering it's low-key free work/ideas they could viably use. There is a recruiter who reaches out via email as a contact, but the weird, impersonal, dystopian nature of the whole interview process was super off-putting. I'm glad it didn't go anywhere -- no one wants this.
- How would you perform in the role?
- What are your thoughts on marketplace competitors?
- What are your ideas for the role and/or what would you pitch?
