Wilson Associates Interview Questions
& Process

I talked to the Design Team Manager and the Regional Director. We talked about my design process, how I work with others, and my past projects. It was pretty much a normal interview.

This interview was pretty bad. I got there early and there was nowhere to sit, so they put me in a conference room with stuff in it for a bit. The interview itself was in a semi-open area, which was awkward, especially since the interviewers didn't seem to know why I was there. They were confused by me from the start. They picked apart my resume, said I was too qualified and not qualified enough (which made no sense), brought up old stereotypes about my college, and tried to tell me I'd hate the job. One of the people I was supposed to meet with didn't even show up. I knew right away it wasn't a good fit, but I still don't know why they asked me to come in. I even asked them, but they didn't give me a straight answer. I guess I was a bit of a non-traditional candidate and it was hard to show that on paper, but I had the experience and more. It was a waste of time for everyone, and I got two better job offers for more money a few days later. Hopefully, they've improved their hiring process since then because it was off-putting and they clearly didn't know what they were looking for, wasting everyone's time.

I got referred to the job and position by someone we both know. I later learned the job was on Craigslist and probably other places too. Even though I was interested in this job with WA, which would be a career change for me and I had no design or hospitality industry experience, they considered me. First, there was a phone interview that took about 45 minutes. I think the holiday schedule caused a delay in them reaching out. About two weeks later, they called me for an in-person interview that was a bit over an hour with three people: the Sr. VP and MD, VP of Business Development, and Director of Administration. They asked good questions and listened to my answers. Later that day, around 5:30 pm, I got an email with a special assignment for finalists, due the next morning.

The interview experience was very comfortable. They shared information about the company culture. Three associates reviewed my portfolio with me, and I was asked to elaborate on a project I particularly enjoyed. They also inquired about the software I utilize and my approach to work.
