First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Williams-Sonoma, Inc..
Assistant Manager
I was actually recruited by the store manager while I was at the mall shopping and interviewing elsewhere. We had a brief first chat that day, about 20 minutes. She then scheduled me for an interview with her the following week, which lasted an hour. It was a really good conversation about how I could improve the team and utilize our mutual strengths. After that, I had a phone interview with the District Manager (DM). That was also a great, personal experience – very open and direct.
- What results would you aim for in the store within your first three months?
- What is your availability?
- What are your key strengths and areas for professional development?
Management
Typically at least 2 interviews. The focus is on bigger picture answers. Know business acumen and you're good. They are all about customer acquisition no matter the means. Credit card, credit card, credit card!
- How would you help combat online sales and drive traffic into physical stores?
Assistant Manager
I had a phone screening for an Assistant Manager role, and then an in-store interview about a week later. The interview itself was good, with nice back-and-forth conversation between myself and the manager. I reached out three times to check on the status of the next steps, but received no response after leaving multiple messages asking for a callback. As someone with experience, I expected a more professional approach, at least a callback.
- Can you share an instance of a challenging team member you supervised and how you improved their performance?
