First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at WildTangent.
Game Play Engineer
I applied online and got sent a programming test, then a design test. After those, an all-day in-person interview was set up with the team. The in-person interview was super technical, covering both design and programming. One part involved follow-up questions on my programming test submission, which I wish I'd reviewed beforehand given the long gap between submitting it and the interview due to scheduling. The HR people were nice and helpful; even though scheduling was tricky, they tried their best to accommodate me.
- They asked some pretty typical programming questions, like how to traverse a binary tree or find a path.
- The biggest surprise was when they asked a common programming question, and after I solved it the usual way, they asked for an alternative solution that didn't use the previous method.
- I think my poor answer to that alternative solution question might have cost me the job.
Account Manager
First I had a call with HR, then a 45 minute phone interview. After that, I went to the office to meet with the director and an account executive. The director asked me a lot of questions, but it wasn't too hard. The office seemed empty, and the team mentioned that usually it's just you working there. It looked like they were short-staffed. The job is still posted two months later.
- Can you give me five adjectives that describe you?
Customer Support Representative
I applied online and got a call about a week later. It was a quick phone screening and interview scheduling. The interview had four short 1:1 interviews: first with HR, then the department supervisor, and two team leaders. I followed up a week later because I hadn't heard anything. I was told HR would contact me, but they never did. It's the only job where that happened. The HR interview wasn't hard in terms of recalling examples, but it was tough because of personal questions and follow-ups until they were satisfied. Few of those questions seemed related to the job or job performance. The departmental interviews were friendly and pretty easy with their questions.
- Regarding your majors, why did you pick those two?
- What sort of job did you anticipate getting with those majors?
- Were you not worried about the job prospects with those majors?
UI/User Experience Designer and 2D Artist
HR sent over Word documents that were a pain to fill out. First, I had a phone interview with the art director about my experience and why I want to work there. Then, I went into the office for interviews with the design team, management, and development. This was 3 rounds with groups of 2 people each. They asked stuff like the phone interview questions and also about my career goals.
