White Plains Hospital Interview Questions
& Process

I was contacted by HR via email for a phone interview. During that call, they proposed a different role for me, which I accepted, and an in-person interview was scheduled for the next week. First, I met with HR for some basic questions. Then, I was sent to the hospital for an interview with the department manager. I felt the questions were pretty standard. Since I have prior hospital experience, I had some specific questions about the department and duties ready for her. She mentioned she had been a nurse for only five years before becoming a manager. After speaking with the manager, I met with two nursing technicians. At the end of that interview, the technicians were looking for the manager to escort me out. One of them walked me to the elevator. Just before the doors closed, I overheard the manager making a joke about me to the technician and laughing. I knew then that I wouldn't get the job. I was disappointed because it seemed very unprofessional. A few days later, I sent a follow-up email to the manager, thinking it was the polite thing to do, but I never got a response. HR and the nursing technicians were great and professional. But the manager, does she joke about her staff? And more importantly, what about her patients? Truly unprofessional and disheartening. Although the HR and techs were great, the manager's behavior was unprofessional.

I applied and then the HR manager reached out for a phone interview. It was about 20 minutes and basic questions. Then, they called me to schedule an in-person interview. This person asked a few more questions. After that, I met with a nurse manager on a unit that had an opening. We talked briefly, and she showed us around.

My job application got rejected almost immediately, though I sent it on a Saturday night. I tried calling to follow up, but only got an answering machine. After not hearing anything for days, I called again and left a second message. Then I was invited for an interview. Four days later, after I sent my references, my interview got cancelled because they decided to hire someone else, even though they hadn't interviewed everyone. What a waste of time.

After submitting my resume and it being reviewed, I was called in for a formal interview. The HR representatives for the program were very kind and wanted to get to know me personally and semi-professionally. I never felt uncomfortable. They were very welcoming and kind. They later told us during the internship that professional attire, a smile, and a nice handshake with eye contact are key!
