White House Black Market Sales Representative Interview Questions
& Process

I applied for the sales lead position at black house white market, and the whole process took about two weeks. I applied right before a major holiday, so I wasn't expecting to hear back until after, but I got a call while I was away and had an over-the-phone interview. After discussing my past work and answering some questions, I was called in for an in-person interview the very next day. Once the holiday was over, I got another call to set up an over-the-phone interview with the district manager, which is where I'm at now. The store manager was really nice and made me feel super comfortable, it didn't feel like an interview at all, more like chatting with a peer. I liked that because it suggested my input would be valued, unlike some past interviews where interviewers were really snobby. After another quick interview, I was asked to come in, given an event scenario, and told to pick out outfits and explain my reasoning, which I thought was fun.

I sent in my application online and then got a phone call the very next day asking me to come in for an interview. Once I arrived, they introduced me to everyone working in the store and it was pretty clear they already wanted me for the job. The hiring manager sat down with me outside the store and asked me to talk about my previous job experiences. After that, she asked me if I had any special qualities that would make me a great fit for the position. We also discussed her expectations for employees and that being available at various hours was really important. She let me know the pay rate ($9.40/hr) and I accepted it, because for a student with no money, it's a decent amount.

I applied online and got a call pretty quick, like within a week. When I came in for my interview, the manager was really cold. I ended up waiting for like 10+ minutes in the back by myself while she was busy with customers out front. Funny thing is, there were two people out there when I first got there, and when I left there was only one. There were two other employees there too. When she finally sat down with me, she started asking questions, and I'd begin to answer, but she'd just hold up her hand and cut me off, or just jump to the next question while I was mid-sentence. This happened the whole time. After that, I talked with the assistant, and she was really nice. The manager kept asking about my last retail job, which felt like she was trying to dig up dirt on the competition or badmouth the other store.
