Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Whirlpool Corporation.
Sales Lead
I applied online and got a link for a Plum assessment. A week later, HR called for a 15-minute screening about my background and why I want the job. Then, I had a 45-minute video interview with the hiring manager, mostly situational questions for the industry. HR said it went well. I was supposed to have two 45-minute interviews with team members, but they changed it to two separate one-on-one interviews with key team members. These were also situational questions, like the earlier ones. Each interview ended with 'What information would you like me to convey to the hiring manager about you?'. I felt good about it, but then heard nothing for over two weeks, not even about the outcome, which was disappointing given how organized the process seemed otherwise. It's unprofessional not to communicate.

Sales
I had a phone interview and then a skype interview. They asked basic questions about my past experience and some multi-part questions that seemed pre-planned. I was asked to give a 7-minute persuasive speech on any topic. The second round was with the hiring manager and a current employee, which was pretty straightforward and they were really friendly. Overall, it was a good experience.
- Tell me about a time you faced and overcame a challenge.
Inside Sales Representative
The hiring process has shifted quite a bit in recent years, which is likely for the best. Now, all roles must go through HR first, unlike before. A lot of jobs used to not even be posted, or if they were, they weren't truly competitive because the hiring manager had already picked someone. I suspect this happens elsewhere too, but it was really obvious back then. HR now acts as a crucial mediator, screening candidates and resumes. It's not a perfect system, but it should offer a fairer path to promotions than in the past. My experience is that depending on the job, there might be several interview rounds or just one with the hiring manager. It really depends on the specific position.
- Describe a difficult challenge you faced and how you successfully navigated it.
- Can you share an instance where you were unable to overcome a challenge?
- What are the key qualities or criteria the hiring manager is seeking in a candidate?
