The hiring process has 4 steps. Each step took about 2 weeks to complete. After the last interview with the hiring managers, we talked about when I would get feedback. But no one contacted me or sent an email. It felt disrespectful after I spent so much time in the process. It's a shame because it means nothing for the company and they don't even send a rejection. I have bad feelings about the company and the hiring process.

Behavioral Case Presentation

The interview process began with an initial 1-on-1 interview at a campus event. While the specific questions from this first interview aren't recalled, it involved a good discussion about strategy. It seems important to know what's going on with the company globally and understand how its main brands are positioned. After that, I was invited for on-site interviews as part of a Leadership Development Program (LDP) 'super day' at a corporate retreat in Covert, MI. The evening before, there was a 'pre-night' event with drinks and dinner where candidates could meet recruiters and people from various business units involved with the LDP. We stayed overnight at the retreat center and also at a hotel in Stevensville, MI. The next day, candidates were divided into two groups. One group took a tour of the Southwest Michigan area, while the other group had interviews. These roles switched after lunch. Some candidates had about 3 one-on-one interviews, and others had up to 5. These interviews were with both business unit representatives and HR. I don't remember any technical questions; they were all behavioral and focused on fit. Although some people mentioned the STAR method for answering questions, it's not strictly required; other frameworks like CAR or ACR work too, and the interviewers aren't overly rigid about the format. This 'super day' occurred shortly after Whirlpool announced factory closures in Fort Smith, AR, and Neunkirchen, Germany, leading to 4,400 layoffs, which was likely on everyone's mind. However, our welcome packets included a letter from the CEO emphasizing the importance of these leadership development programs for the company's future, despite the layoffs. This really helped ease concerns. Overall, it was a really positive experience designed to make candidates feel welcome and valued, showcasing the company's people and culture effectively. The attention to detail in making us feel welcomed and sought after was impressive.

Behavioral

I went through three interviews on my college campus for the Finance Development Program. They were all behavioral interviews. Whirlpool seemed to be looking for candidates who had experience (work, internship, extracurricular, or otherwise) in Accounting, Finance, or another business area relevant to the position I applied for. They also wanted to see if I was a cultural fit, specifically looking for someone who showed humble confidence, a drive to achieve above-average results and add value beyond the typical scope, and a desire to learn.
