First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Whirlpool Corporation.
Engineer
It was an on-campus recruitment drive. We had an online test first, and then shortlisted people moved on to interviews. About 300-400 people applied. The online test had core questions. Since I'm from ECE, the questions were about digital electronics, op-amps, and VLSI. Around 70-80 people passed the test and got to interview.
- Can you name some passive devices?
- What distinguishes passive devices from active ones?
Engineer
It was an interview with three people, but one didn't show up. Another one was super arrogant, and the third one didn't even turn their camera on. Some questions were kinda inappropriate, and they kept pushing for answers like I had argued with someone. The analyst who was interviewing, who also spoke English, was muffled by a mask and hard to understand because they were nasal and arrogant, so they wouldn't repeat the questions.
- Have you ever faced conflict situations?
- Can you describe the development processes of the companies you've worked for?
Lead Engineer
The whole process from the recruiter calling me to me accepting the job offer took about three months. It started when a recruiter from Whirlpool reached out on LinkedIn. We scheduled a phone chat a couple of weeks later, which was mainly with the hiring manager. We went over my resume, and I talked about my experience from my current and past roles. The hiring manager also spent a good amount of time explaining the team's structure and what they expected from someone in this position. A few days later, I got an invitation for an onsite interview in Benton Harbor. I traveled the night before and even did a quick tour of the area before the interviews started. I met with five different people during the onsite, and it was actually a pretty good experience. They made the offer about three weeks after the onsite, and after a week of talking things over, I accepted.
- Can you share an instance where you exhibited bias towards someone?
- What is the most significant challenge you're currently encountering in your job, and what steps would you take to resolve it?
- Looking ahead, would you prefer to pursue a more technical path, like a chief engineer, or a management role, and what is the reasoning behind your preference?
