I was contacted by a recruiter on LinkedIn for this role. We had a 30-minute video call where they could get to know me and I could learn more about the position. After that, I was given a paid assignment. The recruiter helped me complete it by communicating the hiring team's needs. I never actually spoke to the hiring team. The assignment involved choosing blog topics, submitting an outline, then a draft, and finally making edits. They paid me my freelance rate, which was more than they expected, but they still agreed to it.

Behavioral Presentation

I interviewed for the Implementation Project Manager role at WhatConverts. The first two rounds with team members were good and informative, giving me insights into the company and role, and were welcoming. However, the final round with a co-founder was disappointing. I had short notice for this interview because another co-founder was out. The co-founder was aggressive and dismissive from the start. It felt like they wanted to assert dominance rather than assess my fit for the job. They even implied I might have been laid off for poor productivity, though my previous company's re-org was the reason and I could provide references. This made the interview uncomfortable and hard to have a real conversation. Their dismissive attitude was discouraging after the positive earlier interviews. It seemed like they disregarded the previous rounds and feedback and weren't really interested in a full evaluation. While thorough interviews are important, the sudden change in attitude in the final round made me hesitant about accepting an offer. A consistent and respectful approach across all stages is important for a good candidate experience. I hope this feedback helps WhatConverts ensure a cohesive and respectful process for everyone.

So I applied and got an impersonal notification within 24 hours to fill out this form for the Senior Recruiter role. The form was asking for specific examples of my recruiting experience in SaaS and MarTech, and also my salary request. I did that task in late 2023 and then got a declined email pretty quickly after. The funny part is that the same job was posted again six months later, and then again three months after that. I applied a second time and got the exact same response asking for the same form. Many pre-IPO companies don't get that recruiting is a specialized function, not just HR operations. Their process is broken, with poor candidate engagement and repeated mistakes.

Behavioral Technical

So I applied, and then got this questionnaire about my design process and how I use metrics, which I thought was pretty cool, way better than a cover letter. They let me tell them what they wanted to know. Anyway, within a day, Amanda the recruiter hit me up to set up a chat for Thursday. We talked about my experience, and I answered more questions about my design process and working with KPIs. She told me what was next: a paid take-home assignment. But, uh, I didn't move on because they went with folks who had experience more like the job. They let me know the next Tuesday. Even though it didn't work out, it felt really human. Amanda was super responsive and thoughtful, which is nice compared to those automated black holes you sometimes deal with. All in all, a good and respectful process.
