The interview was scheduled fast and the whole experience was quite nice. There was a brief teaching demonstration followed by some feedback. I also received information about the company and had time to ask my questions. The interviewer was really friendly, and I had a good time throughout the process.

I applied on their site, and they got back to me very quickly (within 2 days) asking me to send them my resume and a recent photo. They then turned me down. The funny thing is, my resume had the same content that I submitted on their website's application. I think what happened was: once they saw my photo (that my ethnicity is not white), they decided not to hire me. The reason they gave was "it's competitive", which would be an ok reason if it were true; but I have full-time teaching experience at a school, a Master's in Education, and previous TEFL and work history...so I'm not really buying their excuse. If you're not white, save your time and don't apply with Whales English.

This was the worst interview ever. The interviewer was really rude about my background, saying bad things about my 5 years of experience and master's degree. Then, they completely trashed my mock lesson. They acted like a student but wouldn't engage with me at all. After a lot of criticism, even about not using tools not available on Zoom, they said I did a bad job and should redo the mock lesson, and that my pay would depend on it. They then laid out the policies and said I could either redo the lesson and maybe fail, or just take the lowest pay. I think they were definitely trying to get me to accept less money. It felt like a scam and was super unprofessional. I didn't do the second mock lesson. If you want to teach online, there are way better platforms that will treat you better.
