The interview process had a lot of steps, and they were upfront about that, but then they kept adding more conversations. It was cool talking with the team, but some interviews had no-shows, and they didn't really keep me in the loop about what was happening. I ended up dropping out because the team didn't give me that same excited vibe I'm looking for in a new gig.

I got to the second round of interviews. After that, I was ghosted, which I thought was pretty unprofessional. The first interview was a phone call, and the second was a Zoom interview with two people.

The PBS NewsHour has a phone interview with the hiring manager asking about your goals, qualifications and interest in the position and program. Then, they give a very difficult current events news quiz and a test of your knowledge about the PBS NewsHour program by phone. This is all basic knowledge. The position is not for aspiring tv news reporters, anchors, nor producers, and you won't get a demo reel with WETA and PBS NewsHour. The news assistant programs (broadcast, digital/online, social media) are super competitive for grads. PBS NewsHour doesn't offer opportunities to make news anchor, reporter, or producer reel tapes because they don't have the money, equipment, or resources. Find another news assistant job elsewhere because PBS NewsHour doesn't provide this. It's hard to get into these programs because they're competitive. They won't tell you why you weren't accepted. The company constantly has budget cuts, so they have limited resources for everyone.
