Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at WestRock.
Machine Operator
I applied for a machine operator role needing 4 years of experience, but they seemed to want to put me in general labor instead. They had me take a measurement test with some light story problems, and I wouldn't have had time to finish it. I decided against it.
- They had trouble understanding the prototype work I did, which was weird. I stopped participating halfway through because it was so frustrating.
Machine Operator
I applied online and had an interview real quick, like within a couple days. The interview itself was about an hour long. They talked a bit about the company and asked me some questions. They also gave me a test and asked some safety questions at the end. The interviewer was pretty upfront with me, which was cool since it's my first job. He mentioned I'd be starting at the bottom and might have to work long hours and weekends within 60 or 90 days, I can't remember exactly. Totally get that though. He also said he'd need to do a background check, which took about a week. I'm currently in the process of doing my physical.
- What are your long-term career aspirations?
- Given that there are other candidates interviewing, what makes you the best choice for this position?
Machine Operator
The interview process was quick. They asked about my attendance record, my future career aspirations, and my motivation for seeking employment with them. Following that, they detailed the available benefits and vacation time. After I indicated I had no further questions, I was sent home to await a subsequent phone call.
- Have you worked in a team environment before and can you collaborate effectively with others?
- Describe a time you collaborated with a team to achieve a work objective.
