Applied through Handshake. I had a phone screen with another Financial Analyst. The phone screen consisted of background questions and a detailed overview of the company and position. It definitely helps to have a good background in the debenture markets and mathematics. I have 2 rounds of interviews. First one included a meeting with Finance supervisor and a simple Excel test (Data Entry, Functions, Pivot Tables, Low Level VBA) Second interview is with the CFO and VP of Finance. Both amazingly qualified individuals who speak to you to figure about your ambition. They want to see if you fit in the ambition of the company and can deliver their required 30% YOY growth.

The interview process started with a 20-minute phone screen covering fit and experience. This was followed by three in-person interviews. Each in-person interview included an Excel test focusing on various functions like sumifs, and/or, iferror, sumproducts, vlookups, and more complex pivot table questions. They were pretty straightforward, offering hints if you got stuck on a formula or allowing internet searches to show resourcefulness. No financial modeling was involved. There were some issues with scheduling and responses, plus a parking problem on one of the interview days, which affected the experience. Even though an offer was made, they were firm on negotiation, and the offered salary was very low, in the 10th-15th percentiles. Based on market research, this offer was significantly below entry-level financial analyst rates in Southern California. I thanked them, countered with a median range based on my experience and market data, and offered flexibility, but they wouldn't negotiate, so I declined.

It was a really nice interview experience. There were two interviews total. The first one was with my potential managers and a colleague. The second one was with the CFO and the President. It was more about getting to know me as a person rather than testing my knowledge. They did give me an Excel test at the end, and they were helpful with hints if I didn't know how to use a function.
